Kia ora koutou,
Our school is buzzing with excitement as tamariki dive into a wide variety of activities this term! A huge thank you to all the parents who assisted with the Year 6 Beach Trip. Your support helped make the day a memorable and enjoyable experience for everyone involved.
Looking ahead, we are all eagerly anticipating the Colour Run this Friday. It’s set to be a fun-filled event, and we’re incredibly grateful to all the volunteers who have stepped forward to help make it happen. A special thank you to our generous sponsors for their continued support. One of the key highlights this year will be Slime the Teacher – the students are already eagerly voting for their top nominee, and the tension is certainly mounting as we await the big reveal!
Finally, a reminder that school photos will be taking place in just a couple of weeks. Please ensure your child arrives at school with the appropriate shoes and uniform so they’re photo-ready for the day.
See you all on Friday for the Colour Run – it’s going to be a blast!
Ngā mihi,

Horizons
We are excited to be offering the Horizons programme at Red Beach School this year. This programme provides opportunities for children to extend their learning across different curriculum areas. This term we have a Digital Technology group and a Visual Arts group.
The Digital Technology group has been learning skills and building on previous coding knowledge using the programming language of Scratch. We are currently designing and creating our own games. The younger students have been using Blue Bot floor robots with ipads as an introduction to computer programming skills. Both groups are just buzzing with excitement and learning. It is wonderful to see the creative thinking, problem solving and collaboration as they help each other and share their successes.
Stay tuned for the next newsletter to find out what our talented artists in the Visual Arts group have been up to!

Year 0/1
Road Safety
The Year 1 team had Constable Bryan and Constable John visit us to teach us all things "Road Safety".
Some things we learned:
- always cross at a pedestrian crossing or traffic light
- always cross with an adult
- walk across the road or walk along the footpath - no running!
- take a step back from the curb when waiting to cross
- what traffic is and what traffic to look out for when crossing (ie scooters, people, cars)
- never cross between two parked cars where moving traffic can't see you
- get out of the car on the footpath side
- always wear your seatbelt
We did a great job at practicing these things up on the road.

Years 2 & 3
Year 2/ 3 classes along with the rest of the school have had Life Education sessions with Harold. We have been learning about Friendships and how to be a good friend.
We have learnt about caring for our friends, being honest, and giving warm fuzzies and positive comments. All our classes love to visit Harold, seeing the stars and lights on the ceiling and we enjoyed learning in the caravan together.
Team photos below from rooms 1, 13, 14, 26, 29 & 30.

Years 4 & 5
Year 4 and 5 Art and Athletics: A Celebration of Hauora
Over the past few weeks, our Year 4 and 5 tamariki have been fully immersed in both artistic expression and physical challenges through our art and athletics rotations. These experiences have been not only engaging but also deeply connected to our overarching theme of hauora, with a focus on Te Whare Tapa Whā's physical, social, and emotional well-being.
In art, students have been working on personal portraits, carefully transferring images from photographs and bringing them to life with coloured pencils. They have been refining their shading techniques, exploring how light and shadow create depth, and developing their artistic confidence. The results have been stunning, with each portrait capturing individuality and creativity.
Meanwhile, on the field, our athletics rotations have seen students enthusiastically participating in high jump, long jump, sprints, javelin, discus and shot put. These sessions have been a fantastic opportunity for students to develop their skills, build resilience, and support one another as they prepare for the upcoming Year 4/5/6 Athletics Day on March 19th. Those who qualify will have the chance to represent our school at the inter school competition.
The combination of art and athletics has provided a well-rounded experience, allowing students to express themselves creatively while also challenging themselves physically. The joy, determination, and teamwork displayed throughout these activities have been inspiring, reinforcing the importance of well-being in all aspects of our lives.
Year 6
Orewa Surfing day - EOTC
On Wednesday, our Year 6 students had an unforgettable day at Orewa Beach for their EOTC (Education Outside the Classroom) experience! Despite the rain showers, spirits remained high as students took part in a rotation of activities, including beach games & team building challenges, surfing, and swimming.
Throughout the day, our students showed incredible perseverance as they tackled new challenges—whether it was catching their first wave, working together in team challenges, or pushing themselves to master a new skill on the surfboard. It was fantastic to see them demonstrating our RICH Heart Values, supporting and encouraging one another every step of the way.
A huge thank you to our teachers, parent helpers, and the surf instructors who made this experience possible. The day was filled with fun, laughter, and plenty of sandy feet!
In our health unit
Room 11 has been learning all about the brain, our emotions, and how to express and manage different feelings in healthy ways. We have explored how emotions affect us and discovered strategies to navigate them. In writing, we have been learning about metaphors—using creative comparisons to bring our ideas to life. Linking these two topics together, we have written expressive poems where we describe emotions through powerful metaphors. Students have done a fantastic job crafting vivid and imaginative poetry! Here are two examples:

MOTUORA
In Term 1 on Tuesday afternoons, most of the Motuora team heads off to the Stanmore Bay Leisure Centre.
Once there, we file in and then split into two groups. The big kids head to the big pool with Liz and Linda, and the little kids make their way to the small pool. As everyone has changed into their togs at school, it doesn’t take long for us all to get into a pool. The focus for the big kids is floating and kicking, along with general water safety. In the little pool the focus is on water confidence, which includes floating, lifting feet off the bottom, blowing bubbles, putting heads in the water, kicking and having fun.
Everyone has such a lovely time at the pools. It is wonderful to see the progress our children are making and it is a fun way to spend an afternoon.
